Sport @ The Creek

The Breakfast Creek Hotel in conjunction with Nolan’s Meats and A la Carte Meats purchased a live Champion Steer at the 2012 Royal Queensland Show Led Steer Auction. “Hot Dog” as he is know to his carer, 11yr old Billy, won the “GRAND CHAMPION IN THE PRIME CATTLE SECTION”.

Weighing in at 707kg at the Royal Brisbane Show, Hot Dog, an 18mth old Limosine Cross Steer was disqualified from the over-all Grand Champion LED Steer grading as he was 7kgs too big. Word is he was tipped to take out the overall title. Hot Dog spent a glorious retirement in a lush paddock after the Ekka and arrived at the Breakfast Creek Hotel on October 11 easily weighing over 750kg.

A Live Auction was held on the Front Lawn with Bruce Matheson Jnr our winning bidder with his generous bid of $25,000. The prize money was donated to the Couee Foundation as part of their “Octoburn” Fundraiser for the Mater Research Facility, supporting Prostate Cancer Research.

A charity Luncheon was held after the Auction in the Spanish Garden Steakhouse with over 200 people attending, raising over $3000 for the ALH Group fundraiser with proceeds donated to the “Hotel Care” initiative, also supporting Prostate Cancer Research for the Mater Research Facility & P.A Foundation.

Mr Matheson continued his generosity this month, announcing that the Steer would be donated back to the Hotel for a second charity luncheon, held on Tuesday November 27th in the recently renovated Substation No.41 Rum Bar.

Proceeds from the second luncheon were donated to the Children’s Health Foundation as part of ALH Group’s fundraising appeal. Guests included Former Wallaby Sam Scott-Young and NSW Origin Legend Chris Johns whom demolished a special edition 1kg Rib Eye on the Bone.
